The Perfect Human Firewall
I came across some advice that I reckon is amazing.
Here it is: “Be perfect in the things that don't require talent”
I came across this in relation to rugby coaching. The idea is that there are lots of things that don't require talent; that only require effort. Things like getting off the ground, getting into position, being fit, watching and being aware of the ball and the play.
I reckon this is amazing advice because it more than levels up. We can get a bit lost in trying to perfect the areas that need talent. However when perfect in the things that don't require talent we bring our base level up to a point where even if we don't have the amazing talent of some we can compete at the same level or even a higher level. Plus we should always remember that there is someone out there that is going to be better or faster or taller or just more..
Protecting your business has two components the one being the execution of the IT cyber protection, which is talent. The encryption algorithms, the backup execution, network security etc.
The other element is the human firewall which is more effort than talent. It is the really important part to more than level up. It is understanding what needs to be done each day by the people in the business. This is the human firewall.
That is why I have put together a human firewall cyber security program. The program raises awareness and understanding each day of what needs to be done to implement a human firewall.
Creating that human firewall is about creating the culture of effort in the organisation to do the things that need to be done.
When playing sport two talented players of the same calibre have different outcomes depending on the attention they give to the basics of the game and the areas that don't require talent, that only require effort.
You will find that if your business does the small things that require effort perfectly it will excel in all its endeavours.
